About this project
The Our country, Our spirit ebook began when I returned to live in Australia after living in Spain for eighteen months. Although I always knew how beautiful Australia was I often took this for granted. I also believe that in order to make great changes we need to reflect on the good things and focus on where we want to be (not where we don’t want to be).
This project has taken eighteen months to complete – from approaching people for stories, collecting the stories, legal documents, putting them all together, setting up an agreement with a charity etc. And it has been worth it – when I read the stories people have shared I have tears in my eyes from some, whilst laugh out loud about others.
The thing I didn’t expect was the way it motivated some of the contributors. Some of these people had wanted to write a book for years – writing for this project gave them the inspiration they needed to get started or continue with long, lost work.
There were times when I didn’t think I would finish the project – the process has been a long learning curve, but the end result is worth it J. At these times the support of my wonderful life coaches has kept me going and motivated me back into action.
Perhaps it isn’t perfect, but more importantly perhaps some people will love the stories and be inspired within their own lives. If we are all working together, looking at the positives about Australia we can effect changes to ensure our great country becomes even better.
And of course hopefully together we can raise a whole lot of money for Save the Children.
On a personal note the reason I chose this charity is that I have been a direct beneficiary of them. Last year whilst living in an outer Brisbane suburb, I took my children to a playgroup run by Save the Children. Robyn and Tracey were there every week (well almost every week) and provided craft, games, books and even morning tea and made sure all the kids had a great time. I could see the wonderful job they did in areas where perhaps people couldn’t afford traditional playgroup. Equally the work Save the Children do overseas is making an enormous difference to the life of thousands of children.
